ABOUT THIS GAME / DESCRIPTION
Supraland is a first-person Metroidvania-style puzzle game. The main sources of inspiration are Zelda, Metroid and Portal. Supraland assumes you are smart and lets you play on your own. The story is minimal, gives you an overarching purpose, and then sets you free. Despite the children's visual component, the game is aimed at experienced players. Playing time: ~12-25 hours
You explore a large, interconnected world where most paths are initially impassable until you discover new abilities to overcome these obstacles. A cornerstone of Supraland's design was to create abilities that are so versatile that they will continue to surprise you with how many different uses they have. If you combine your abilities, the possibilities become even greater.
Much of the game is spent exploring the sandbox world in search of secrets. Often you think you're going to go out of bounds and beat the level designer, only to have a chest waiting for you with a very useful upgrade. Supraland respects your life and doesn't clutter up your play time with an unlimited number of simple collectibles.
The deeper you get into the game, the more you'll encounter creative puzzles that you've never seen anywhere before, challenging you to stop and think about what abilities you have and how you can use them differently.
The types of puzzles I already knew from other games were immediately rejected during the design process. And what's important to me is that once you understand the idea of a puzzle, you can solve it almost immediately, rather than going through a cumbersome and frustrating solution.
The combat mechanics are inspired by old-school fast-paced shooters like Unreal, Doom and Quake, encouraging high-speed strafing and jumping as you take shot after shot at hordes of charging enemies without having to worry about reloading your weapons.
